LAKE HAVASU CITY - If you want excitement and the satisfaction of being part of a life-saving team, Mohave Community College’s surgical technology program can prepare you for a rewarding career with a secure future..
MCC’s surgical technology program has openings for fall on the Lake Havasu City campus. The associate degree program runs for two years. The first year entails passing basic general education core classes and learning the basics of the operating room. The second is spent in clinical settings, scrubbing and working as a member of a surgical team under supervision of a preceptor, who is an experienced certified surgical technologist.
Upon graduation, you will be ready to join the action as part of a hospital surgical team.
Dr. Robert Goodrich, recently named MCC’s surgical technology program director, has been with MCC since 2001. He taught anatomy and physiology until 2006, when he joined the surgical technology program. Prior to joining MCC, he practiced as an obstetrician/gynecologist for 10 years in Lake Havasu City.
Goodrich earned his bachelor of science degree in microbiology from the University of Georgia and his doctor of medicine (MD) degree from the Medical College of Georgia. He is a certified surgical technologist, served as a delegate to the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) national conference in 2008 and is current president of the Arizona State Assembly of the AST.
“The technologist is a very important person on a surgical team,” Goodrich said. “It is his or her responsibility to pass instruments to the surgeon, to present a sterile field in the operating room and is ultimately responsible for preventing infection. The tech has an integral role in an incredibly diverse and interesting world of surgery.”
Not only is surgical technology one of the most in-demand careers around the United States, it is one of the best-paid jobs there is starting with a two-year degree, he said.
The deadline to apply for the MCC program is Aug. 4. For more information about the program, contact Goodrich at (928) 505-3374 or email him at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
