Centralized Jobs & Career Fair set for July 25

E-mail Print

Instead of three job fairs over three days in three cities, the Arizona Workforce Connection will hold the county-wide 2009 Jobs & Career Fair in Kingman on July 25. Up to 40 agencies and companies will take part in the fair, held at 400 Grandview in Kingman from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.KINGMAN - Job seekers and employers are invited to participate in the 2009 Jobs & Career Fair, sponsored by the local Arizona Workforce Connection partners.

The new centralized event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 25 at 400 Grandview in Kingman – just off I-40 and Beale. The event will bring together up to 40 employers from throughout the Tri-city area, who are currently hiring or are gathering resumes for anticipated expansion.

In the past, the local Arizona Workforce Connection partners have sponsored similar events on three consecutive weekdays in the three major cities.

“When three separate events were held, businesses that wanted to attract employees from all three areas had to set up three times, pay for three booths and be away from their businesses for most of the week. That limited the number of employers who job seekers could talk with,” said Charlotte Keller, director of marketing for Mohave Community College, a Workforce Connection partner.

Job seekers will have an opportunity to learn about the companies represented and to discuss careers in those industries. They will be able to talk with representatives from DES Employment Administration, DES veterans’ services, REPAC (Re-employment Pre-layoff Center) and the Mohave County One-Stop Career Center about employment opportunities and the skills needed to land a job.

Before the event, One-Stop and DES Employment Administration will conduct focused training sessions to help area residents prepared for face-to-face meetings with employers. That training will take place on Thursday afternoon, July 23, and Friday morning, July 24, at the county offices, 700 West Beale in Kingman.

To help job seekers discover how they can prepare for a more rewarding career, representatives from Mohave Community College will be at the event with information about the various programs of study at the college.

MCC provides individual job skills training, certificates in specialized areas, associate’s degrees and, in conjunction with its university partners, bachelor’s degrees that can be earned without having to relocate or give up a job.

“The economy is improving and it’s a great time to recruit the best and most skilled workers in Mohave County,” said Jerry Ambrose of the Arizona DES Employment Administration.

Employer booth space is limited. To reserve a space, call Jeannette at MCC at (928) 757-0832.
