KINGMAN - Job seekers are invited to attend the 2009 Job & Career Fair, sponsored by the Mohave County Workforce Connection partners (DES Employment Services, Mohave Community College, Mohave County One-Stop Career Centers, REPAC and area chambers of commerce), on Saturday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 400 Grandview Ave., in Kingman.
“As many as 40 employers are expected to participate in the jobs and career fair, which means a larger number of employers will be available at the combined event than job seekers have had access to in the past,” said Charlotte Keller, a member of the Workforce Connection committee organizing the event.
Among those employers are: Aquarius Resort and Casino, Desert Highlands care facility, Guardian Fiberglass, Arizona Game and Fish, Hualapai Mountain Medical Center, Kingman State Prison, Southwest Behavioral Health Services, Mohave Community College, the Social Security Administration, KGMN Radio, Action Welding and more.
“Because more room is available this year, employer booths can be reserved through July 20, as long as spaces last,” Keller said. “Plus, employers will have a 10-foot booth space this year to do full displays about their companies.”
In addition to meeting with employers, job seekers will be able to talk with representatives from the various state and county agencies that assist people with applying for and securing jobs, and with representatives from Mohave Community College which can prepare individuals for new careers, enhanced job skills and college degrees.
The Arizona State Department of Economic Security Employment Services office will have handouts of available jobs and information on how to be successful in applying for employment.
The Mohave County One-Stop Career Center will have information on programs they offer to assist job seekers with resume writing, interviewing skills, job-search techniques and employment etiquette.
Both DES Employment Service and the One-Stop Center will be offering “Prepare for the Fair” employment preparation seminars on July 23 from 1 to 4 p.m. and on July 24 from 9 a.m. to noon at 700 West Beale St., in Kingman. Those seminars are free.
Mohave Community College will be showcasing its new Entrepreneurship degree and certificate at the fair. Those new programs begin this fall, with classes starting Aug. 17.
“The government expects that over the next decade, most new jobs and economic growth will come from the start-up of new small businesses,” said Chuck Spotts, MCC’s vice president of instruction and student services. “The Entrepreneurship program lays out the basics and covers the key elements involved in beginning and succeeding in a new business.”
To further highlight the entrepreneurship opportunity, MCC’s Small Business Development Center, with support from the Mohave County One-Stop Career Center and Western Arizona Economic Development District, will present a half-day “Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour” workshop and seminar at the same location as the Jobs & Career Fair.
The Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour is offered at no charge, but reservations are requested. Call (928) 757-0894 to reserve your seat.
