Brack scores big on airport construction; Pro Floors to burst onto Bullhead scene

E-mail Print

This 16,000-square foot warehouse built by Brack Construction, Inc., in Bullhead City, will soon house Pro Floors, Inc., one of the largest flooring wholesaler/retailers in the nation.BULLHEAD CITY – Phill Brack, President of Brack Construction, Inc., is pretty busy of late and to get to one of his bigger jobs all he has to do is drive from one part of Laughlin/Bullhead International Airport to another.

Brack, whose company specializes in concrete tilt-up construction, has his office in a building he built on Landon Drive at the airport. Next door are two more buildings he built for CNH-Corbiz of Irvine, Calif.

“We leased one of them the other day,” Brack said. “There is already a sign on it. The largest flooring company in the U.S. is going to be there – Pro Floors, Inc. They signed a five-year lease.

“They will do retail and installations out of (the building). It’s a 16,000-square foot warehouse. They’ll have $1 million in inventory.”

A short drive away is another large Brack project.

“We’re building the new private air terminal at the airport. Landmark Aviation hired us. They’re the No. 2 airport operator in the country,” Brack said. “They called us  and we stumbled down there and they told us what they wanted to build and we said we can knock that out, no sweat.

“They looked at what we’ve built and said we’re qualified. They signed a contract immediately.”

Landmark Aviation was so pleased with the quality of the construction Brack is doing on its Bullhead City terminal it hired the company for more work.

“They said ‘How would you like to go to California and do a job for us?’” Brack said.  “In Yuma we’re building another terminal for Landmark.”

That isn’t the only airport construction Brack has going on at this time.

“We’re doing some work for LifeFlight Aviation for Dr. Blake Stamper for CareFlight,” Brack said. “We’re remodeling his emergency airport facility in San Diego for Dr. Stamper.”

The company has plenty of work to keep it busy, despite the sluggish economy.

“I can’t exactly figure it out. I don’t know why it is this way for us and other people are flat, but we do a different kind of thing,” Brack said. “I’ve talked to other people who have nothing, and I say ‘Yeah, we’re going into the busiest we’ve been in two and a half years.

“We’ve always been extremely conservative. We’re not driving new trucks. We pay our bills. We’re in a position where we can still go and get stuff done, but some people are so down they can’t afford to start anything.”

Brack is matter-of-fact when he talks about his own business, but there is a hint of excitement when he speaks about the Laughlin/Bullhead International Airport and a grant it has to help fund bringing a commercial carrier to the region.

“The airport has half million dollar grant. When they get a carrier they can guarantee the seats. The grant will pay for the unsold seats,” Brack said. “This could open up a whole new saga in this area.

“I think it could be beginning of something beyond what a lot of people believe.”
